Snow, Cousins, Birthdays

January 10, 2010

We’re home after a fab Christmas holiday with all the family, even if it did mean commuting between England and Wales.

Snow was the theme of the holiday. Little did we know we were going to be home for the coldest Christmas for the last 30 years or more – reminding me of the winter of 1963 when I was a kid and we got snowed in with my cousins in Aylesbury.

It snowed in London the day we arrived but melted and came back the next day!IMG_1833 The cousins: Jack, Alice, Florence, Rosie, Will (behind in hat), Matt.

We visited the Tower of London and watched it snow outside as we toured the White Tower. The snow didn’t lay but  it got progressively colder as the day went on!

Just before we left for Wales and Christmas, we had a silly photo shoot in Fi’s kitchen. I deliberately chose this photo because of the T. G. Green china collection behind us.

In front of Marine Gardens New Year’s Day… it was freezing cold the wind was bitter but you could see for miles the sky was so clear.

“Come here a moment Mum…!”

Yes, he did throw it at me! The snow and ice finally melted after Christmas. Will and I passed green fields on our trip back to Wales. Then on the morning of the 6th January we woke up to white!

We left Wales a day early to get to Heathrow airport and beat more snow. It was bitterly cold but the plane took off as scheduled and we were back in LA 12 hours later, far to hot in layers of t-shirts, sweaters, coats and scarves.

Mei was thrilled to see us but we now have some unexpected repairs… the front room blind is shredded, the curtains are down, the bathroom blind is broken, she broke part of the door frame and has been tunneling out of the garden!
